The 98% of tropical fruit producing countries are developing countries, while developed countries represent about 80% of countries importing these fruits. The share of developing countries was 96% in 1988-90 and expected to rise to 99% in 2014. Tropical fruits, including the most cultured, pineapple, mango, avocado and papaya, representing about 75% of exports of fresh tropical products.

In 2015 Ecuador exported $26.6B, making it the 72nd largest exporter in the world. During the last five years the exports of Ecuador have increased at an annualized rate of 5%, from $20.9B in 2008 to $26.6B in 2015. The most recent exports are led by Crude Petroleum which represent 51.4% of the total exports of Ecuador, followed by Bananas, which account for 11.5%.
